This April marks the 50th anniversary of Juan Belmonte’s death. They say that Belmonte and Joselito revolutionized, each one with his own style, the art of bullfighting. The choreographers Cesc Gelabert and Lydia Azzopardi were inspired by Belmonte’s figure to construct a dance show of beuaty, emotion and stunning sensuality.
BELMONTE’S PRESENTATION.
On December 19 at 19:30h we will present the documentary BELMONTE in the Teatre LLiure press room (Pl. Margarita Xirgu), with the participation of the choreographers, Cesc Gelabert and Lydia Azzopardi, the director, Jordi Cadena, and the producer Paco Poch. You are invited!
Belmonte has won the Award for the Best Dance Show in the “XVII edició dels Premis Butaca 2011”.
Belmonte is an allegory about the world of bullfighting that part of the mythical figure of Juan Belmonte (1892-1962), but without being a biography of the bullfighter or a figurative description of the corridas. The show is an explosion of music, dance and emotion that is based on the choreographic language of Cesc Gelabert and Lydia Azzopardi, emotion and color of the Carles Santos music and beauty and sensuality of the Frederic Amat’s artisitc direction.
Jordi Cadena filmed the documentary BELMONTE from the show Gelabert-Azzopardi, capturing all their strength and expression through a very sensitive and precise direction. We will soon have the dvd edition of this documentary by Jordi Cadena.
It has recently been released in Spain and it can be watched online via Filmin. It was also at Berlin Film Festival this winter. It is the documentary Escuchando al Juez Garzón (“Listening to judge Garzon”), directed by Isabel Coixet (“The Secret Life of Words”, “Map of the Sounds of Tokyo”, “Elegy”…). The documentary is a long interview with the Spanish Judge Baltasar Garzón, by Manuel Rivas, where he explores his personal and professional career, and talks openly of his past and the present that has just pushed him out from the National Court.
As a main part of the Pinochet Case, Baltasar Garzón explains how he was able to arrest and extradite the ex dictator Augusto Pinochet in London, from a legal point of view.
El Caso Pinochet (The Pinochet Case), by Patricio Guzmán, shows the first time the victims of Pinochet’s dictatorship were allowed to denounce in front of a judge the abuses they were subjected.
DVD Paco Poch encourages watching both documentaries for a complete information about the Pinochet Case: on one hand, the witnesses of the victims in El Caso Pinochet (The Pinochet Case) (which can be purchased here) and on the other hand, the testimony of how Judge Garzon managed to start a legal process to do justice, in Escuchando al juez Garzón (Listening to Judge Garzon).
Today we link to International Amnesty to add some relevant informations about the documentary produced by DVD Paco Poch, El Caso Pinochet (The Pinochet Case) and directed by Patricio Guzmán.
